The Beginning of My Life

By Carlos  |   From : Belle Glade (Florida)  |   School : Glades Central High School

I am Carlos Gama. I was 14 years old when I came to the United States.

I lived in a very small village called Zapoapa in Guerrero, Mexico.

I left my country during September 2014, and September is the month in which we celebrate the day of Mexican independence. In my village we celebrate it with a lot of parties and a lot of traditional Mexican food.

I left my village really early, because I had to travel downtown to get on a bus that would take me to Mexico City. The ride was three hours. When I got to the bus station in Mexico City, I had to get a taxi to take me and my parents to the airport. From the airport I took a plane to the United States. I arrived in Miami for the first time. My brother was the one who picked us up when we arrived.  For me and my parents, me the United States was something different.  When we came to Belle Glade, it was hard to get used to many things. The school was the hardest for me, because I did not understand the teachers. Since then, time has passed, and now I feel it is no longer difficult for me. Now I only visit Mexico in the summer, and then return to the United States.
