An important moment in my life happened before I came to America
By Catchina | From : Haiti | School : Plantation High SchoolMy name is Catchina. I’m 15 years old, I am from Haiti. There are four people in my family. I came to the United States with my mom, while my dad and my little sister are still in Haiti. I live with my mom and my aunt.
I like playing volleyball, and I think I’m going to join the school team next year. I also enjoy playing video games and listening to music.
My mom made the decision to leave Haiti and come to the United States in 2023. I only told one friend about it because she was a very good friend to me. Her name is Nice. She is smart, generous, and honest. I felt excited and sad at the same time because I was going to leave my father, my sister, my grandmother, my cousins, and all my school friends.
An important moment in my life happened before I came to America. I was living in a city called Bassin-Bleu in Haiti with my mother, father, younger sister, aunt, grandmother, and cousins. It was November 2023 when my mother went to pick up my school supplies. I came first in my class with an average of 91.78. Some teachers from my school came to my house to congratulate me, and some even gave me gifts. I was very happy and proud.
It was during that time that I was preparing to come to America. I remember combing my hair into a braid and getting my nails done.
