Embracing Change

Life in my country was beautiful and pleasant. I had many friends, especially a best friend whom I adored. I was popular, loved my school, and the teachers were understanding. I had good grades, my family was happy, and above all, I loved going to the beach. I left my country because of gang problems and because I could no longer attend school like everyone else. It wasn’t my decision, but it was the best thing to do to protect us, especially since there are more opportunities for young people like me in America.

My trip was quite pleasant; I even slept during the flight. When I looked out the window and saw my homeland disappear into the clouds, all the memories came back, and with them, tears. But I knew deep down that it was the best thing to do.

Arriving in the USA was a bit difficult. Adopting a new language and culture is not easy, but I met other people who spoke the same language as me, and they helped me adapt to the system.

To conclude, what I learned is that being an immigrant in a country does not mean you cannot succeed. You still can achieve your goals.
