Hello, my name is Azumi and I am from Lima, Peru. Since I was a child, I have always loved traveling with my family and creating beautiful memories. I love rolled ice cream made from fresh fruit and popcorn, but I truly dislike avocado and watermelon. Ever since I was little, have enjoyed listening to people and giving them advice; that is where my dream of becoming a psychologist comes from. 

I have two brothers; one is 20 and the younger one is 9. I am the middle child and the only girl. My parents separated in 2020. My older brother went to live with my father, while my younger brother and I lived with my mother. Life was very unstable then; I would spend months at my grandparents’ house and other months with my mom. At school, however, things were different. I had many friends, I was a favorite among my teachers, and I got along well with everyone.

When I was 10 years old, my father migrated to the United States with my older brother. From that moment on, I knew that I would migrate too someday. At 12, my mother told me that my little brother and I would be traveling. It was a surprise because I was going to travel with an aunt, not with her. I thought about it a lot and decided to go anyway. During the journey to Mexico, I felt nervous and scared, but I focused on staying strong so my little brother wouldn’t feel afraid. After a long journey, we arrived in the United States. Unfortunately, there was a complication, and we were separated from my aunt. We were taken to a juvenile center where a woman was assigned to care for us while our paperwork was processed.

After one month, we were given permission to live with our father. Officials were assigned to take us to the airport and fly with us to Florida, where my father and older brother were waiting for us. When I arrived, I started in 8th grade. Since I didn’t know the language well, it was difficult to adapt, but over time I found friends who helped me adjust to this new life. When I entered high school, I made even more friends who helped me tremendously. I learned more about the language and began to explore more places.

Currently, I am happy to have friends by my side who support me in everything I do. I continue to study and strive to be a great student so that I can have more opportunities for my future education.

Hola, mi nombre es Azumi y soy de Perú, Lima. Desde pequeña me ha gustado viajar con mi familia y crear momentos lindos. Me encanta los helados enrollados hechos de pura fruta y las palomitas de maíz. Detesto el aguacate y la sandía. Desde pequeña me ha gustado escuchar y aconsejar a las personas, de ahí viene mi sueño de ser psicóloga.  

Tengo dos hermanos, uno tiene 20 y el menor tiene 9 años, soy la del medio y la única mujer. Mis padres se separaron en el 2020 y mi hermano mayor se quedó a vivir con mi papá, mientras que hermano menor y yo vivíamos con mi mamá. Todo era muy inestable ya que a veces me quedaba meses en la casa de mis abuelos y otros meses junto a mi mamá. En la escuela tenía muchos amigos y era la favorita de mis profesores, me llevaba muy bien con todo el mundo.  

Cuando tenía 10 años mi papá migro a los estados unidos junto a mi hermano mayor. Desde entonces yo ya tenía muy claro de que en algún momento migraría también. A los 12 mi mamá me dio la noticia que viajaría junto a mi hermano pequeño y me tomo de sorpresa ya que iba a viajar con una tía y no con ella. Pensé mucho las cosas y decidí viajar igualmente. Durante el viaje hacia México me sentí nerviosa y asustada, pero me enfoqué en estar fuerte para que mi hermano menor no se sienta asustado de igual manera. Después de toda la travesía llegamos a Estados Unidos en donde hubo un inconveniente y nos separaron de mi tía. Nos llevaron hacia un centro de menores en donde asignaron a una señora para que nos cuide durante el tiempo en que se procesaran nuestros papeles. 

Después de un mes nos dieron el permiso de poder vivir con nuestro papá, asignaron a unos señores que nos llevaron al aeropuerto y viajaron junto a nosotros hasta Florida en donde nuestro papá nos recibió junto a mi hermano mayor. Ya estando aquí empecé 8 grade y al no saber tanto el idioma se me hacía difícil adaptarme, pero durante el tiempo encontré amigos que me ayudaron a adaptarme mejor a esta vida. Al entrar a high school hice aún más amigos que me ayudaron demasiado, aprendí aún más el idioma y conocía más lugares. 

Actualmente estoy feliz de tener amigos a mi lado que me apoyan en todo lo que hago, sigo estudiando y esforzándome en ser una buena estudiante para poder tener más oportunidades en mis estudios .
