 My name is Roche. I am 16 years old, and I am in 10th grade. I was born in Haiti, in the city of Jacmel.

In 2023, my mother told me she was going to send me to the United States to continue my studies. That’s where it all started. My mother prepared my papers and everything I would need for the trip, and later that year, I left for the United States. 

The most important moment in my life was when I was preparing to come to the United States because it was my first big adventure. When my mother asked me if I wanted to go, I accepted right away. I had always dreamed of coming to the United States so I could continue my studies and fulfill my goals. 

The only thing that stressed me about this trip was leaving without my mother and father. They didn’t want to come with me, and I understood why. My parents have businesses in Haiti, and they didn’t want to leave everything behind. Even though I felt sad, I didn’t insist because I know the reason I really like the way schools in the United States work I quickly adapted to life in the United States despite I want to become a police officer in the future . my biggest obstacle, which is the language english. I learned to fend for myself; I learned to cook; I learned so many things because everything—the schools, my environment, absolutely everything—is completely different from my home country. Everything might seem different, but it is doable. For example, I used to think I would never be able to understand people when they speke to me; however, I can now understand about 50% of what is said to me in English, and I strive to improve every day.
