My Story

By Student   |   From : Dominican Republic  |   School : Boston International Newcomers Academy

Where I Am From

I am from an island that is being shared,

From a lot of cultural music like Denbow, Bachata, Salsa

I am from  a place where people are always connecting even if they don’t know each other From a place where they talk like they have been friends for many years

I’m from New York.

I am From the Bronx. A place where Dominicans bring life to the city.

There are many people always selling food in the streets. Everyone sells different types of food like frozen food, hot food, snacks and a lot of ice cream.

I am from hazing memories and loud streets.

TODAY I AM

Today I’m passing through the city that  never sleeps.

Today the wind of the city is cold but also warming at the same time.

Today the city is silent but the silence is really loud.

Today feels like there are a lot of people who are tired of working but can’t stop working.

Today feels like you’re alone but don’t forget to look around you.

Today life feels like a hill that goes down for a long time and then it goes up once you start trying new things and get out of your comfort zone. Also don’t  do something just because your friend always makes sure you do everything for yourself.

Today the world treats you like a machine and the people around you use you until  they cant get nothing out of you so if you don’t control yourself and your decisions you might end up in the worst place and you did it all to yourself.

Dear Future,

In 10 years from now I hope you actually complete your goals. make sure you actually become a state Trooper or a foresting scientist so you can have a good life. Also remember last time you wrote a letter to yourself you did everything so I’m not playing with you, do it again. But Brat make sure you don’t forget you made it this far with a lot of people  hating you and loving you and the ones that love you left you when you needed them the most so never forget that you don’t need anyone except from your mother and your mentality.

You are your own best guide. Take time to reflect on your actions, thoughts, and emotions. Self-awareness is the key to understanding what truly drives you and what holds you back. When you know yourself better, you can make decisions that align with your values and aspirations.

Be specific about what you want to achieve. Break your goals down into smaller, manageable steps. By focusing on one thing at a time, you can prevent overwhelm and build momentum as you accomplish each milestone. Remember, progress is progress, no matter how small.

Don’t get discouraged by setbacks or mistakes. Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. The most important thing is showing up, day after day, even when you don’t feel like it. Consistency will build habits, and habits will build success.

Believe in your ability to learn and improve. When faced with challenges, see them as opportunities to grow. Embrace the idea that you can always become better—at anything you put your mind to. The road to self-improvement is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. Be patient with yourself.

A healthy mind needs a healthy body, and vice versa. Make time for self-care, whether that’s through exercise, meditation, eating well, or simply taking a break. Physical and mental well-being are the foundations for all the success you want to achieve.

The people you spend time with have a profound impact on your mindset and energy. Seek out those who lift you up, who inspire you to be your best. Let go of toxic relationships that drain your spirit. Remember, you are not alone on this journey—others are walking it with you.
Growth isn’t about beating yourself up for every mistake; it’s about learning and evolving. Celebrate your progress and be gentle with yourself when things don’t go as planned. You are doing your best, and that’s enough. Allow yourself grace as you continue to grow.

Remember, the person you’re becoming is a reflection of the choices you make today. Every decision, no matter how small, shapes the person you will become tomorrow. So, make choices that align with your best self. Stay committed, stay hopeful, and never stop believing in your capacity to improve.

You’ve got this. Keep going.
