Sorry

I wish I could go back

By Ingris Guevara  |   From : El Salvador  |   School : Glades Central High School (FL)

My name is Ingris Guevara. I’m 17 years old, and I am from El Salvador. I have been in the United States for 4 years. When I was 3 years old my dad left my siblings and me, because he wanted to come to the United States. He planned to come because we needed money.  Then, when I was 6 years old, my mom left us with my grandparents, because my dad wanted to be with her. All that time I lived with my grandparents, it was not same, because sometimes you want to be with your parents and receive love from them. It was difficult for me to go to school, because I had to take care of my grandparents. I didn’t attend school for a year and a half. My mom didn’t  like that I was missing school so she told me to come to the United States. At first, I did not want to leave my country, but my mom told me that she had already paid the person to bring me to the United States. After one month I got to Miami, and it was the first time I saw my mom after 8 years. I was so happy. I went to the first day of school, and I was nervous because I didn’t know anybody. I met new people. I miss my family from El Salvador.  I wish I could go back, but I can’t because there is so much violence. For now I am going to focus on my school and getting a high school diploma.
