A Journey to a Better Future
By Lucas | From : Argentina | School : South Broward High SchoolI am Lucas, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 3, 2007. I spent my childhood in Argentina, and when I was 10, my family decided that the best choice was to move to Hollywood, Florida, in the United States. This decision was driven by the lack of safety in Argentina, and the opportunity for a better future and more opportunities in the United States encouraged us as a family to make the move.
At the time, I didn’t know English, and I had no relatives living here. However, over the years, I was able to learn English and form friendships, which helped me feel more comfortable in this country and truly at home. During the first few days, I didn’t feel comfortable, as I didn’t know anyone and was starting a new school year in a completely different environment. In Argentina, I had always attended the same school, so this was a new experience for me.
Now, as a junior in high school, I have completely adapted to life here. I feel at home and am proud to say that the United States has provided me with a better future. I am currently enrolled in the Cambridge Diploma program at South Broward High, which gives me the opportunity to earn a scholarship and attend a university with a higher level of education compared to those in Argentina. However, I will eventually visit my family who still live there, as the time apart makes me miss them.
