Sorry

My name is Stevenson. I’m 16 years old and I’m from Haiti. When I was younger, my life was peaceful and eventful. Despite the beautiful life I had there, my journey was not easy because of the crisis happening in the capital, especially within the last couple of years. I could not go to school; I could not sleep without the fear of shooting. I couldn’t stay like this forever and my family decided to send me to the U.S. for a better life, for their peace of mind. 

I knew changing countries wouldn’t be easy, because I would be leaving my family and friends, but it was for my own good. I came to a country where I didn’t know anybody. New language, new environment, new school, new friends, I thought it would be impossible to adjust to life here in the USA. The beginning was not easy, but I am still trying to adapt to this environment.  

As they say, if you want, you can. I wanted and I did. Coral Glades High School became a place where I’m excited to go every day. I made new friends, and this unknown country is becoming my new home. I will always cherish my memories from Haiti and make my family there proud of me. 

          It is not easy, but it is possible.
