I Didn’t Want to Come

I came to United States approximately 4 months ago, and everything began because my mom had a good friend who lived here, and she talked to my mom everyday on the cellphone – It made my mom want to come here to live. One day, she said to us she wanted to come but nobody in the family wanted to come, only she did. Finally, she convinced my dad, but my sister and I still didn’t want to come. I was 16 years old. I had friends, I had a boyfriend, I knew what university I wanted to study at and what career I was going to study. But, finally, we decided to come here to begin a new life. When we arrived, it was very complicated to adjust to this new culture, to this different language and to be far from my family and friends. It is difficult to begin a new life especially when you have so many things in your country, but everything in life is habit, so little by little, we are achieving.
It is difficult because schools here are very different, there are many more people than in Colombia, the food is better in my country, in Colombia the people are more funny than here, the music that we listen in Colombia is totally different than here. I like cold, and Bogotá is cold, but the United States is so hot almost all year around. I live in Florida.
