Dream Big
By Sonia Garcia | From : Miramar, Florida | School : Everglades High SchoolMy name is Sonia Garcia. I was born in the United States and am a daughter of two immigrants.
My dad was born in Havana, Cuba. He moved to the United States when he was 10. The motive of his move was for his family and himself to leave before Fidel Castro had 100% control. By the time they left Castro already had full control and the fact they were granted the freedom flight quickly was a blessing. Ever since I was little I love to listen to my grandfather’s stories of their struggles and how they have overcome them. I believe that it has made me a better person because it makes me realize that I have “lived the life.”
My mom was born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. She moved to the United States when she was 26 in pursuit of finally achieving her goal of becoming a clothing designer.
The reason I share a little bit about my parents is because they are both so special to me. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am now. Literally. Family to me is the most important thing in the world. They support, love, care, and encourage my three sisters and brother everyday without fault. Both my parents have taught me that any dream cam be accomplished with hard work and determination. So never be afraid to do what you dream.
