Growing Up with My Salvadoran Roots
By Yessly | From : El Salvador | School : Gateway High SchoolHi my name is Yessly. I’m the second child of my Salvadoran family. My older brother and I are my parents only children. My parents are both from La Union, El salvador. My dad brought my mom here to the US to create a family. My brother and I have a 4 year gap. Having an older brother who stays to himself has also made me stay to myself. Having no family my age around me made me be quiet. Being an introverted person has held me back from a lot of things. I’ve never had enough trust in someone to tell them everything about me, share every secret about myself. Coming into highschool was a struggle. Not knowing a lot of people and being nervous . Being nervous made me sit out of opportunities I could have experienced. Missing out made me not create the memories I would have cherished and missed. I’ve always felt like I had enough trust in my mother. She is my bestest friend. I always tell her everything after every inconvenience. My mom always gives me the best advice and always helps me through something. She won’t let me be sad or mad over any little problem.
I am glad I still created memories. Having my quince was one of my most memorable moments.I felt like planning my quince helped my family come closer. I’m grateful for everything my parents did for me. I enjoyed every second of the day and every chance I spent planning for that special day.Dancing with my mom, my dad and brother made me really happy. I received a lot of money and gifts. Going to see my favorite group, Fuerza Regida Was such an amazing time. My brother and I became closer after that. You should always try to have a good connection with your family. They are your blood and you’ll always cherish any moment you ever had with them.
