Immigrant story

My name is Patice Moreau. I’am a 17 year’s old Haitian. I came to the USA when I was 11 years old to persuade my dreams of becoming a doctor. It was very hard to move from one country to another country because I was leaving everything behind. I left my friends, family and my childhood home.

As I got to the US, I lived with my auntie for 2 years. My 5 year’s old cousin taught me English because that was the only person I’ve talked to that was patient with me even if she barely knew how to speak, but she helped me alot . When I started to go to school, my aunt made me go back one year so it could be easier, school was always easy for me in elementary. I never had a problem learning English.

When I got to middle school I moved in with my uncle but I only stayed a year because of personal problems. Then later I moved in with my dad, which I barely knew, we always used to argue because I was holding grudges for him for years for him not being in my life all the time, after 3 years of arguing we finally made up even if we still argue I appreciate a lot his done for me.

School had always been hard for me. I struggled with math. Besides that everything  has been normal I’am  currently in 11th grade. I’ve been in the US for 6 years and I love it. I cannot wait to complete my dreams of what I want to be in life and make my parents proud. Only I can change my life.

The worst year I’ve experienced was last year my 10th grade year. I lost friends, family, a lot. Haiti always made me feel better, so my mom decided it would be good to spend the summer there, which helped a lot. The people taught me to just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and do not get so worked up about things.I saw my Bestfriend which was relieving. My family inspired me to become better and they remind me of why I came to the USA.

My junior started good after the summer. A lot of good things been happening. I can’t wait for more to happen in the future.
