nobody spoke my language and I didn’t speak theirs

By Kyanne  |   From : Brazil  |   School : Mariner High School

My name is Kyanne, I’m 16 years old, I was born in the United States but I moved to Brazil (Minas Gerais) when I was little, with my brothers, I met amazing people, I lived things that I would never live in the United States, then I moved to the USA again because the situation in Brazil was going to get worse than it already was, prices were going up, gasoline was very expensive and at 14 years old I didn’t speak any English or Spanish, I cried a lot, alone without friends because nobody spoke my language and I didn’t speak theirs, it was months like that, always crying at recess and the only thing I could do was talk to my brother who was in the same school as me, as time went by I started to meet new people from other countries, but I still couldn’t understand anything they said nor could they understand me, over time I started to understand Spanish but I still couldn’t speak, some people helped me when I arrived, talking through the translator, and after months at school I got used to the new routine with new people, and with the language because automatically … When you enter the school, several people speak Spanish and English, or French, but months went by and I already spoke Spanish, so for me it was better, I could help people who were newcomers. After finishing high school I want to go to university to study psychology or be a teacher.
