Stop Complaining About Life
By Joan Guerrero | From : Bloomfield, NJ | School : Bloomfield High SchoolIt was a lovely day. I was in math class taking a break. I was talking with my friend Fatima. She was talking with me about her beautiful life in Pakistan. She said that Pakistan was cute… lots of flowers, that it was hot there, and that’s where she was born. Her family lives there, and she doesn’t want to forget her nationality. She was telling me about school, that it was hard to study, and she knows how to speak Urdu. She started talking about when she came to the United States. She told me that the United State is a hard country to live in. She also said that she didn’t understand anything about English. That her parents didn’t have papers, but she has papers. She didn’t have any friends here, because she didn’t know English. She kept talking and talking about that, almost the entire class. I stood up and said to her, ” Listen Fatima, there are a lot of people that are going through this. You should be thankful because you have papers, and now you have a better life. I mean I have a life too. I have problems too. Stop putting more problems on me. Stop complaining about it, and deal with life. No one says that life is easy.” When I told her that, she stopped for a moment. She realized that life isn’t easy.
