Sorry

Here in the United States, I do not go out.

My family immigrated to the United States because they wanted to make a new life. I came walking in the desert.

When I came to the US, everything was new to me. I was anxious to meet my Mom. I had never met her because she left me with my grandmother when I was a baby. She came to the US to work. Also, I was anxious to meet my little sister who was born here.

I remember when I departed from my country, my grandmother touched my hand and said: “Take care of yourself daughter.” I did not want to leave.

Here in the United States, I do not go out.

I remember the first day I went to school in the United States. It was in December 2013. I felt very scared because I could not speak English. One thing which was easy was to ask for help and favor from the children who spoke Spanish. One thing which was difficult was the teachers who gave me homework and I did not know how to do it because I did not understand English. At school, there are dictionaries for new students and other children who understand already a little better English.
