Hello, my name is Litzy.

On May 17, 2018, I came to the U.S. looking for a better future. I came with my mom and brother. My dad couldn’t come with us at that time. I started school, and I was so nervous that I didn’t talk to anyone because I was shy and didn’t speak English. Then, I started middle school and made a lot of friends.

Before starting 8th grade, I went to the Dominican Republic to see my family. I was so happy and didn’t want to leave. When I came back, I did well in my grades and graduated from middle school. My mom couldn’t attend my graduation because her brother was in the hospital. I was really sad that she couldn’t be there.

Then, I started high school, where I got A’s and B’s for two straight terms in 9th grade. I went to the Dominican Republic again during the summer.

In July 2024, my cousin came from the Dominican Republic, and everything changed. From the moment we met, it felt like we had known each other forever. We bonded instantly, spending hours talking, laughing, and discovering how alike we truly are. Day by day, our connection grew stronger, turning simple moments into unforgettable memories. Since then, we’ve been inseparable, sharing our lives and dreams like sisters. Meeting her was one of the most beautiful gifts of that summer, a bond that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
