New Beginnings
By Pratt Lensky | From : Haiti | School : Plantation High SchoolOne normal day my mom came home from work and told me that in less than a month we were leaving the country, I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t take it very well, I didn’t want to leave my friends or my family, everything happened very quickly, At the end of February we arrived in the United States.
My biggest challenge in coming to this country was leaving my friends, they were the ones I spent every day with, the ones I was going to miss the most, there was also my family who had left in my country.
In the first instance, I managed to overcome that by accepting that I already lived in another country, that I had to adapt to the new country and that all things happen for a reason.
Another new experience that I had was that I have gone through many moves, about three times since I came to this country, in my country I never moved, I lived for 13 years in my house
It is hard to get used to a place then leave and have the same thing repeatedly.
A difficult situation while here was that my dad was heading to Las Vegas and halfway there he suffered a very serious accident. When I found out, I despaired because I couldn’t do anything because I was very far away. A while passed and I didn’t hear anything from him, then I realized that they took him to the hospital and he was recovering.
A moment in my life where I felt deeply proud and happy was when I met my family for the first time. After years of searching and longing, I finally had the opportunity to meet them on a warm summer day. Upon arriving at the meeting place, the air was filled with laughter and hugs, and the excitement was palpable. When I saw my relatives, I felt a wave of joy that filled my heart. Each hug was a reminder of the stories I had heard about them, and seeing their faces made me feel an instant connection. We shared anecdotes, laughter and tears of happiness, creating memories that I will treasure forever. In that moment, I understood the importance of family and how lucky I was to finally be a part of something so special. The feeling of belonging sand love I experienced made me feel proud of my roots and the history we share.
A memorable moment was on a sunny summer afternoon, a group of friends gather at the local park to celebrate one of their friends’ birthdays. Laughter resonated in the air as they shared stories and enjoyed an impromptu picnic, surrounded by leafy trees and birdsong. Suddenly, a small dog approached them, wagging its tail excitedly, prompting a series of laughter and impromptu games. This moment, full of joy and camaraderie, became an indelible memory, symbolizing the essence of friendship and happiness shared in those fleeting moments of life.
At that moment I was having fun at the picnic with my friends while we ate and drank and played while we were having fun. That was my best day representing friendship.
